The sienna tinged lupine stalked within the boundaries of this new timberland. She had yet to explore the area and thought it was quire a fine place to visit. The female paused, feeling quiet protected within the safety of the thick forest. Her claws dug into the fragile terrain, disturbing the soil. Astarael’s cranium strained forward, her nose twitched as she caught an unfamiliar scent. Not that that was much a surprise mind you, for the whole area was uncharted as far as she was concerned. And so the little ship began her vast journey in these waters. Her ears laid back against her cranium, although her heart was light at the moment, she was wary. They spoke of ancient creatures which made their nests within these nooks and crannies and wished not to meet any. A snack would be nice but she was not in the mood for a fight at this particular point in time, which was quiet unlike the young fae.

Malik couldn't tell how long he had been asleep since he couldn't remember the last time he felt safe enough to nap more than a few minutes in days. It wasn't to say he felt completely safe here, but his travels the past two days drained him to the last drop of energy. A disturbance in the area caused Malik to arouse from his slumber. First his ears twitched and then his eyes opened to take in his surroundings. At first he didn't realize where he was, nor could he remember how he got there...at first.
"Run! Run, Malik..please!" His mother's desperate words rang still fresh in his memory. His mother was the only one to still accept his presense in the pack, but only in private. Even his father had been part of the party to chase him off his homeland into the unforgiving jowls of being a nomad.
A haze of dew had blanketed his form overnight that was rather annoying. Malik slowly rose to his feet and stepped out of the haphazardly dug out bed, shaking from head all the way down to his tail to remove the beads of water. Immediately Malik stuck his head high into the air, breathing deep and listening closely for the source of the disturbance in the forest. Of course he knew the land was claimed already, that was no surprise, but there had been not a living thing scrambling the earth to bother him yesterday. Ever so cautiously he slunk through the shadows against the trunks of the trees, tail held high. If it was just a passerby he could get away with bullying the wolf to leave without any trouble...or perhaps a controversial meal could be in place.

Astarael haulted dead within her tracks. Her pluma rose hesitantly, there was another near by, she was certain of it. Against the scents of the fallen foliage and safely nestled fowl was the poignant perfume of her own kind. Her first instinct was of course to run. She had few encounters with those from these lands and of course her past was not a suitable one to talk of. And yet, instead, something compelled her foward to search for this creature. The inner beast took control and her chassis stealthly dropped to the forest floor. She crept foward like the preditor she was, attempting to move up wind without giving her position away in hopes of seeing the facade of this beast before presenting herself in a more vulnerable way. And so the little sailboat tranformed into a battleship, or perhaps a submarine.

Malik became briefly distracted, grazing his nose against the soil and snuffing along an invisible trail. He crawled into a bow to peek under several bushes before falling still. Malik was part blind but not stupid. He spent his whole life honing his other senses. It wasn't to say he knew who or where his new stalker was...but he did know he was being watched. The peppered hair along his spine hackled, his tail bushed out and curled up high. There was no problem in asserting and playing alpha so long as the real alpha wasn't the one stalking him. He backed up from the current bush and straightened to all fours, sweeping his gaze around with his one perfect and one scarred eye. "Yet you hide in the shadows." A deep gruffing voice met the breeze. One couldn't help but notice the inkling of a mishchievious grin twinging the cornors of his lips.

If one were to strain their ears, they might hear a soft yet distinct pattering as a light creature moved about the ground. She was horribly small; in fact, so small that she could obviously only be a pup. She was easily visible, as her fuzzy pelt was a light pearl hue. However, you wouldn't have to strain your ears to hear her stifled laughs. She tried not to laugh too hard, but the immature pup could hardly keep from doing so with great joy. Not even the distinct darkness of the forest could keep Yuuni from her fun.
Through the thick covering of trees came down a single beam of light, quite easily seen as the dust particles floating in the air were highlighted by this glint of light. Yuuni dashed through it, her laugh clearly ringing through the seemingly empty forest. Her prey was not one for eating, but merely a morsel of enjoyment. It was a bright yellow butterfly, fluttering with fear from the pup who was apparently oblivious to its panic. Yuuni ran around, jumping high in the air to attempt to catch the poor bug. She swiped her paw, a wide grin spread across her face. It wasn't often that she had this much fun. Well, actually, she is easily entertained, so this butterfly is quite the unfortunate soul.
Rather suddenly, the butterfly decided it had had enough. Yuuni watched from below as it flew higher, and eventually up into the canopy above. Her fun had been snatched away. She barked three times, hoping her fun would return. But alas, it did not. "Hmph," she grumbled, turning around, pursing her lips in frustration. "Now what am I supposed to do?" she uttered under her breath. She had run from her guardian at dusk the previous night, wanting to have some time to play on her own. Little did she know the ironic circumstance she had put herself in. Being alone and having fun are quite far from each other for this hyperactive pup.
The serenity of the thick forest surrounding her made her hold still for a moment. She reclined, curling her tail around herself. She held completely still, holding her breath, eyes closed. She focused completely on her hearing. She heard a distinct sound, something that scared her very greatly.
Silence.
She just sat there, listening to the awful sound. She hated it, there was nothing about it that made her feel happy. She liked feeling happy. But wait a second.. There was something about this silence that surrounded her.. Something exciting. But she couldn't figure out what it was. This was fearfully exciting, and yet she didn't know why. No, wait, that must be it! Fear. The very thing she despised, it made her heart race, her heart soar with anticipation for what would happen next. She liked this thing very much, yes, this fear...
She heard something in the silence. She opened her eyes wide, turning her head this way and that, frantically searching for the thing that disturbed her state of mind. What was it she had heard? It was a screech, yes.. What was it that screeched? What caused her to feel such emotional pain? This was another type of fear, with the same symptoms of the one she had felt seconds before. Except she didn't like this one. It felt more life threatening than exciting.
Finally, she had the sense to look above herself. There was something lurking in the trees above. She squinted, trying to make out the figure in the trees. It was nothing but a crow. Yuuni laughed nervously at herself, shaking her head. She closed her eyes again, and heard the flapping of the avian's wings. It was loud at first, but quickly faded away, telling the young pup that it had flown away. She sighed, now yet again bored. She again listened to the silence. But this time, something was different. She still heard nothing, but it didn't feel the same. Silence; but this silence was not empty. No, there were others here. Yuuni may not be the smartest wolf, but she wasn't a total idiot.
She tried to creep around to find others, but still hadn't learned much in tracking. And so, she wandered, hoping that the one she found wasn't a dangerous one. She had no protector with her at the moment, and certainly wasn't capable of taking on a full grown wolf.

A soft simper graced her taunt features. She had to admit she loved it when her prey had some form of intelligence; it made the hunt so much more enjoyable. Forward she stepped while skirting closer to his form. Ideally she had intended to appear literally right next to him and thus she began her careful stalk within the umbrage. Her forelimb lifted only to fall again after a careful quick calculation of which route would provide her access to her side most silently. It was during this time she caught the sniff of another.
Astarael was not pleased that her plans had been interrupted but things had to be compromised. Whoever this new comer was did not appear to be a skilled hunter or was to abash to worry of stealth but instead came head on like a reckless child. Noting this Astarael did not halt her plots but instead let her senses stray from her cornered capture. She saw her opportunity in her mind’s eye and took it. The lithe female form delicately appeared to his left, a soft sneer upon her features and she whispered in reply, "They are so befitting of me."
She was quick upon her feet and she knew it. He would notice her in but a minute and most likely lash out at her so she took the chance of surprise to step out of his immediate reach. Her nose lifted again, twitching as the scent upon the zephyr closed in on her. "It appears another wishes to join our masquerade, my dear."
The female could be called 'cruel' in her own ways yet she did not have the heart to kill a child, an innocent pup could not know the ways of the elder and so the child would have been quiet safe within Astarael’s grasp, providing that it knew when to speak and when to stay silent. And yet, though the fae’s callous attitude could be seen, she could be quite playful if you managed to get her in the right position. She was what one could call a practical joker, that is, if lupines could be such a thing.

{I'm soooo sorry! I was gone for the past two weekends then had a fever Monday and Tuesday o.o; proboards skins n' crap to do that I was behind in...just now free and clear headed enough to try and post.}
And it had the audacity to approach on his bad side. Immediately Malik's hindquarters quickly skid across the soil to bring his rump, tail still high in superiority, swivveling around so he faced the female head on. He wasn't about to attack, that was stupid, or rather boring and unfair. It's a real man who can kill someone with his hands than to shoot him from a distance. Therefore, if and when Malik decides to attack someone, they are well informed and armed before hand. "As are swine to mud." Malik retorted bitterly in comparison.
As for Yuuni-the foolish pup-Malik could only hope she stayed put or out of sight. Smell is just one sense but sight makes the meal. "And what would it matter to you? This place does not reek of your stench. It is fresh...unadulterated. Therefore you have no say who comes and goes."
{Obviously not that good but my posts are still sucky all over the place. 0.0 Gimme one or two more to get back into the rhythm.}

Yes, there were other wolves here. Yuuni could at least smell them, and because of this, she knew they were near. The silence still filled the air, stifling her existence. Yet, through the deathly quiet wood, she could hear the words of the wolves near her. A few quick mutters to the other, and they were done.
She let her paws carry her a bit further to the right from the mental path she had been following moments before. The sound came from that direction, anyway. The pain of the silence seemed to fall behind her as her thoughts strayed to that of the other wolves. Who were they? More importantly, would they be fun? She smiled, and continued on prancing towards the other wolves. The idea that it might be dangerous hadn't occured to her.
Soon, she could make out the dark shapes of two wolves in the distance, and hear their voices clearly. The thing that she found yet more amazing than that was the voice she had just heard. Malik? Here? She didn't think he'd find her so quickly. Well, he hadn't yet, she could still run. ...No. I won't run anymore, she decided, planting her feet firmly. She had made Malik's life difficult enough by running off. It's not like she disliked Malik at all, but quite the opposite. He was her best friend. She had no one else.
Yuuni lifted her forepaw from the ground, slowly but surely. Her other forepaw followed, and then her hind legs also began to move in the direction of the other two. What would Malik say? Would he be mad? Or glad to have found her?
With every step, she felt more tense. Not so much in worry for Malik's reaction as for what appeared to be going on here. She froze, noticing Malik's stance was not one that said friend. She might not know much about fighting, or tracking, or anything at all, really, but this one was kind of obvious, even to her. She just watched, the inner corners of her brows tilting up, her eyes full of worry, and to be honest, even fear. What was going on here? Was she in danger? Would she be putting Malik in danger if the other wolf knew she was there? No, she shouldn't approach without Malik coming to her. She was close enough, he would know she's here.

The fae’s mouth opened, her bittersweet melody of laughter rippled through the zephyr. He was indeed a character, one much like her own and that was something she came to appreciate. It had appeared he was not as blind as she had taken him for, one mistake she must admit she had made and yet Astarael would not make it again. Her claws drug themselves across the soil as her paw lifted. She slunk forward, circling him. Her auburn eyes turned towards him, keeping him within her sight as she moved.
Astarael had not forgotten of the other scent she had smelt previously. An unseen presence was even more threatening then a seen one in her world. Because of such she remained keen, her eyes might be upon the lone wolf yet the rest of her senses searched out the other. The female was certain the lupine was near for the smell had become increasingly strong. It smelt…feminine….and it smelt afraid. What did fear smell like? Astarael wasn’t sure but it left a sweet perfume within her naval cavities. Oh but one toy at a time, my dear.
She halted in her trek, a question had been asked to her and it was one she intended to reply. Her gaze temporarily shifted from his form to graze upon her environment before returning to him. Ah, her beautiful forest. "Funny you should say such a thing. You are correct in part, these lands are new, untainted by time and yet…they are mine." It was her turn to allow her newfound superior royalty to grace her form. He could not hide from her with his attitude, that tail poured forth nothing but lies. This place was hers and she had every right to say who came and went, and even who never left at all.

(Ghost town in here. >.> Absense is long story...mostly just due to me losing the url.)
Wretched pup. Malik didn't know why he hadn't killed Yuuni yet...or at least scared her enough so she would stop following him. His good eyes swept the bushes very briefly while the fae looked around as well. Back to the problem at hand, Malik countered the now acclaimed alpha, making the duo circle each other like a pack of hungry...well....wolves. There should be a memo posted somewhere of these things, 'Beware, psychotic alpha.' Well, just something about the way she presented herself that told Malik that this encounter was not like the others he had stumbled into on his travels. "Then an alpha that flies solo, not altogether wise." Malik pronounced his posture even more, turning from stand-off defensive to the offensive. He dug his nails into the soil and held his chest and head forward, a leering smirk on his maw, with the intention of pushing Astareal back.

| Mwahaha, I find it funny that Yuuni thinks Malik is her best friend and Malik hates Yuuni. xD |
Yuuni watched, anxiety filling her soul. She was determined to help in some way, yet she didn't know how she could. She was just a small pup. She couldn't intimidate an enemy, and she certainly couldn't fight one.
She was currently hiding behind some bushes, and the leaves continually got in the way. Perhaps she could get a better view if she were above the bushes? Yes, Yuuni could try that. Her head swiveled, looking for a place to get a higher vantage point. She saw a slightly large rock, but it appeared that the flat part of it was too high for her to simply jump to, and she still wasn't interested in making a lot of noise. She continued looking, and this time saw a fallen tree. It had been caught in the branches of other trees, resting in a harsh angle. It had rotted away some, which Yuuni saw as there being an easier foothold.
She quickly padded over to the base of the log. It was a deep brown color, a sweet green moss covering one side of it. Yuuni tilted her head, wondering why moss was only on one side. She shook her head, reminding herself that it wasn't important at the moment. She placed a paw on it, forcing some weight onto that paw. It was a slight cushion, and she felt like she almost had a halfway decent grip. So, she trusted her instinct, and slowly climbed on to the log, all her weight now on it.
Due to the slant, she had to use her claws to keep hold. She didn't have to climb too much before she had a good view of the two circling wolves. She clearly identified one wolf as Malik, though she had no doubts it was him by now anyway. She looked at the other wolf now. The graceful movements told her that it was a fae.
Yuuni sat on the edge of her feet, trying to gain a comfortable position on the awkward tree. She could hardly see concentrate on what was going on. She strained, trying to lean lightly closer, though struggling to keep her balance. She hadn't calculated that the tree was actually rotting, not simply dead. A loud crack was heard as the tree began to break in half right under the poor pup. Yuuni whelped, and tried to regain balance, moving as little as possible, hoping no more damage would be done. She had only a moment to think before the branch cracked again.
Yuuni took a bound from the height, fearing a fall more than a jump. The tree fell, a thud as each half hit the ground. Yuuni didn't have enough time to actually focus on her jump. Her balance faltered midair, and now she had no control over where she was sent. She managed to land on the ground with her front paws first, but her rear end flew over her head. Her body tumbled recklessly for a few more moments, but she finally came to a stop, along with the forest, which was alive with the sudden commotion the pup had caused.
She shook her head for a few seconds, her body completely sore. She had managed to land herself right in the middle of the circling wolves. She gasped, fearful of what Malik would say more than of the other wolf. She winced, her eyes shutting harshly, with the small pain.

The crack of the limb startled the fae wolf just as much as it had started the area surrounding her. She jumped back, eyes quickly searching for the danger that had presented it's self. And then, the unthinkable happened, a young wolf was sprawled in between her and the male. Astarael's head tilted to the side, her ears raised. This was the smell she had found earlier! It wasn't as much of a threat as she put it out to be. Her gaze rose once more, this time focused on the male. The female could only assume that the child was his. But that probably meant another female was around here some where. What a party this was turning out to be. Her cranium leaned forward, sniffing in the pup's direction. Yup. Smelt like him.
But wait, he had said something to her hadn't he? It'd be rude to not reply. "Am I alone? After all, you...two...are here." Her newest members! She was proud of herself. Not that the two had agreed but why not. They didn't fit in with those other wolfs. Okay, well, maybe the child did but certainly not him. They would never accept him and the two of them both new that. Astarael stepped closer towards the sprawled out pup, she raised her paw, moving the bundle of fur and flesh gently. The sienna lupine glanced up at her companion. "I am guessing she's yours. Where's the lucky lady." Her ears shifted back, searching for the sound of another.

There couldn't have possibly been a worse time for the pup to 'roll' on in. Malik's gaze averted as the limb cracked and out came Yuuni from the bushes. His ears swiveled to pin against his head, one side of his upper lip curling slightly in distaste. Deal with her later. The alpha spoke and Malik quickly returned his attention to her.
"You are alone in alliance," Malik slightly held up the paw that was closest to Yuuni, showing his detatchment, "and there is no 'lady'...she is not mine." Although he tempted fate by not claiming Yuuni as his, he was not about to chance her being a bargaining chip. There was a very strong and delitcate hate-grudging relationship there. Malik lowered his foot and casually swung his body about so the alpha fae was sqaure in his vision and not teetering in the line of his bad eye. Oh, and Malik of course still did not lower his tail or posture...not about to roll over or show submission to anyone now, no matter the rank.

Yuuni's breathing was hard, more from her nervous state than from pain. Her eyes remained shut, as she listened to the two speaking.
Not his? Yuuni thought, hear ears shooting back, eyes flying open though her gaze remained at the ground. Maybe he means he isn't my father. That much is true. But.. I am in his care, he can't just disown me.. He can't.. Gentle tears began rolling down her face, but she made no remark of it and tried not to show it.
Yuuni's fragile body stood limply, trembling from pain and emotion. Her tail remained lifeless, and her head hung, face clouded by the shadows. She shook her head a few times, then reclined, tail curling around her form. She tried to act lightly more mature, as much as her playful nature would. Though, in her pain, it didn't seem too hard. She lifted her head, her fur glistening lightly from her tears. Her gaze did not fall upon either wolf, but simply off into the forest. If she was to be judged, she might as well do so silently.

The female gave him quite a skeptical look. If they wanted to roam the lands free then that was their wish but they would atleast be wise to show a slight bit of respect to her. Psh! The nerve of him. However, our dear Astarael was not completely oblivious and thus noticed the affect his words had upon his little companion there. Something was going on between them. That much she could figure out but weather it was an abusive fatherly thing or a sibling she couldn't tell and to be frank, she wasn't sure she wanted to know. She turned slightly, glancing back at them. "So be it. But it would be wise, wolf, to leave these lands soon. For the lights will not have you and you wouldn't want you're young companion to be hurt by their kind." With these words she nudge the young one. It was an old motherly instinct. Sure, children were a weak spot for the fae but not to the point where she'd lay her life down for one she didn't know. If he wanted to get them killed that was his choice. She had offered her protection and he'd refused. Shame. He would have made such an addition to her small little pack of one while those stupid lights grew with such freedom. A soft growl rose in the back of her throat as she thought of them. Mood swing much? Astarael turned her back upon them, fully aware she could react in time should he feel some stupid need to pounce on her. Her body swayed from side to side as she walked away from them. She paused, as if having a second thought and turned back to look upon them. "Male," she spoke, "watch your words. They impact the child more then you think." She had nothing else to say. She wasn't going to force them to join her, after all a forced hunter is a useless one as she saw it. "My offer still stands should you so choose." He could come find her, for this, she saw, was just a waste of her valuable time.
